Wire Rope Clip (U-Bolt Type), Galvanized
Wire Rope Clip (U-Bolt Type), Galvanized
A galvanized wire rope clip (U-bolt rope clamp) for marine wire rope end termination, lashing and mooring applications. Manufactured to GB/T 5976-2006andDIN 741, with a drop-forged steel saddle, hardened U-bolt and lock nuts, hot-dip galvanized for corrosion resistance. Suitable for wire rope diameters from 6 mm to 60 mm, reusable with simple hand tooling, and available with full material certificates for third-party inspection.
What Is a Wire Rope Clip?
Awire rope clip (also called a U-bolt clamp or rope clamp) forms a secure eye or loop at the end of a wire rope, or joins two wire rope ends, by clamping the rope between a saddle and a U-bolt under two lock nuts. It consists of three parts: a forged steel saddle, a threaded U-bolt and two nuts. When correctly installed, the U-bolt sits on the dead (short) end and the saddle carries the loaded side, transmitting load by friction between the rope and the clip. Correctly installed U-bolt rope clips reach about 80% of the wire rope breaking strength (per industry practice).
Marine Applications
Note: application data below is based on typical industry practice for marine rigging using conforming hardware.
| Application | Function |
|---|---|
| Wire rope eye termination | Form permanent eyes on rigging, lifting falls and stays |
| Lashing & cargo securing | Lock lashing wires on deck cargo |
| Mooring line end fixing | Secure mooring wire ends to bitts and bollards |
| Davits & block falls | Terminate davit and block-and-tackle falls |
| Gangway & ladder rigging | Fix guard and suspension ropes during rigging |

FAQ
How many wire rope clips are needed for one termination?
Per GB/T 5976-2006 Annex A: 3 clips for rope up to 18 mm, 4 for 18-26 mm, 5 for 26-36 mm, 6 for 36-44 mm, and 7 for 44-60 mm. Spacing between clips is about 6-7 times the rope diameter.
How should a wire rope clip be installed?
Place the U-bolt on the dead (short) end and the saddle on the live loaded side. Tighten the nuts to the recommended torque, apply a first test load, then re-tighten. Do not reverse the clip, as this can cause the rope to slip through the saddle under load.
Can wire rope clips be reused?
GB/T 5976 recommends that removed clips be replaced rather than reused, and that remaining clips be re-tightened during periodic inspection. Inspect bolts for thread damage, deformation and the saddle for cracks before each use.
Can wire rope clips be used for lifting loads?
U-bolt rope clips are friction-type terminations intended for lashing, securing and guying. They are not suitable for overhead lifting of personnel or critical hoisting loads; use rated forged terminations for lifting applications.
